If only I could go back and tell my younger self to own it. It's a gift and not a curse.

For decades I only saw a man when looking in the mirror. Slowly, Susan is coming into focus. So I can relate to the comic below..

Julia Kaye has a nice Instagram site that is using her own cartoons to document her transition. It appears that she started HRT around the same time I did. Her Instagram site is upandoutcomics.

Saturday November 26, 2016 - Transgender people on Netflix.

I have a Netflix account but did not use it much. But I found a list of seven Netflix shows and movies with awesome transgender characters. I am going to watch them all.

BTW, I got into Black Mirror on Netflix and love the show. Its an updated Twilight Zone. My youngest daughter told me about it. If you are into SF stuff, check it out.

Sunday October 30, 2016 - Transwoman appearing mainstream

Yesterday, I found this video about PrEP. I like the normalcy of this video. The subtle node that this is a transwoman, is a nice touch.

I believe that showing transgender people as normal everyday Americans dealing with everyday issues, helps the public see us as a normal part of the community.

"PrEP” stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. PrEP is a way for people who don’t have HIV but who are at very high risk of getting it to prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day. The pill contains two medicines that are also used to treat HIV. If you take PrEP and are exposed to HIV through sex or injection drug use, these medicines can work to keep the virus from taking hold in your body. Source

In the recent Dr. Phil show about a Transgender teen without family support, he brought in and talked to a transgender teen with a supportive family.

Its amazing the difference in appearance and confidence.

Friday September 16, 2016 - ACC moves its Championship games from North Carolina

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Wednesday that it would move its neutral site championships out of North Carolina for the 2016-17 season in response to the state's controversial House Bill 2.

The law prevents cities and counties from passing protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity. And public schools must require bathrooms or locker rooms be designated for use only by people based on their biological sex.

The ACC follows the lead of the NCAA, which announced Monday that it would relocate its championships for 2016-17.

The original dates and sites for the neutral site championships affected:

1. Women’s soccer: Nov. 4, 6; Cary
2. Football: Dec. 3; Charlotte
3. Men’s and women’s swimming and diving: Feb. 15-18; Greensboro
4. Women’s basketball: March 1-5; Greensboro
5. Men’s and women’s tennis: April 26-30; Cary
6. Women’s golf: April 21-23, Greensboro
7. Men’s golf: April 21-23; New London
8. Baseball: May 23-28; Durham

Finding a football stadium as ACC-friendly as Charlotte might be difficult. The championship game’s been played at Bank of America Stadium for the past six seasons with an average attendance of 69,641. In the previous two seasons (2008-09) the game was held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and averaged 49,412 spectators.

“We’ll do what we need to do,” Swofford said. “It’s a challenge, our next challenge.”

Swofford said the ACC would consider the issue again in the spring if nothing changed in North Carolina’s law. Such prohibitions can last for quite some time: The NCAA’s ban on South Carolina hosting neutral-site championships for flying the Confederate flag on Statehouse grounds lasted from 2001 until it came down last summer.

Thursday September 15, 2016 - Jen Richards joins the cast of "Nashville"

Jen Richards, of Her Story fame, will join the show. The transgender actress will portray Allyson Del Lago in a recurring role. She will play the part of “a tough but understanding physical therapist who helps a series regular through one of their most difficult challenges,” a press release from the network reveals.

It’s not clear which series regular will be seeing the physical therapist, though fans will speculate that it will be Juliette Barnes, whose plane disappeared in a cliffhanger that closed Season 4.

Jen Richards is an Emmy-nominated writer, actress and producer. Her casting marks CMT’s first transgender character and the first out transgender actor on the network.

"Nashville" is slated to premiere on CMT (switching from ABC) with a two-hour episode on Thursday, Jan. 5.

Friday September 2, 2016 - Dad's supporting their transgender children.

Growing up, I felt a little neglected by my father. He was busy with his business, politics, a radio talk show and helping the extended family in the neighborhood. He was the smart kid in the family that made good. Not just high school football player, SGA School President but also college, dental school and doctor.

I had fun growing up but when my "stash" was discovered, things changed. My Dad reduced his outside work to spend more time with me. I think he felt that spending too much time with my mother might make me gay.

It was cool, but the aversion therapy made me go deeper into the closet and become the son, my dad deserved. I was the oldest and I had to uphold the name and success.

But we never really talked about my transgender issues.

I know my Dad did the best he could and told me often that he loved me and how proud he was on me.

So I idealized my Dad because of what he accomplished and all of the good karma he sent out. I was on the receiving end of that good Karma that came back over many decades.

Now in the 2010's, understanding and acceptance is growing. I am so glad I am able to see this maturing in society. There will still be some down turns but the overall movement is up.

I found the short video below by HRC, very emotional. Its about fathers discussing supporting their Transgender children.

In the Spring of 2015, there were many new Trans-based TV shows and movies. This year, there are not as many new shows. But a few shows are entering their second season.

Tonight, Transcendent will premiere their second season.

Wednesday March 2, 2016 - Important History Lesson

As I get older, I am learning the importance of history. When I was in school, I thought history was boring. Now I know that history is not boring, but information that helps put the present into prospective.

I found this very interesting and relevant person who lived from 1886 to 1954 (2 years before I was born).

Her name is Lucy Hicks Anderson.

I want to thank my bff and avid blog reader Ms.Stacey Anne Smith. for introducing me to the superhero Shezow.

Have you heard of her in her own animated cartoon series? I had not.

Shezow is a female superhero who fights evil. She is a he. That's right Shezow is a 12-year old boy who put on his recently deceased Aunt's ring which turn him into a female superhero.

It ran for 1 season in 2013 on a TV cable channel called HUB. It appears that conservative backlash did the show in. However the show still lives. Facebook Fan Page.

Sunday January 24, 2016 - Season 1 of Her Story - All six episodes

I like this show. I have only seen Episode 1 and the first half of Episode 2. But I like the realism of the show. I know its early but I like the way they bring up issues and I can relate to some of the undercurrent issues discussed or at least mentioned in the show.

I found a playlist of all six episodes from Season 1. Since each episode is less than 10 minutes, I am going to get some popcorn and binge watch the whole season in less than 1 hour. I can do that. It's the all day binge that gets me in trouble. 

Wednesday January 20, 2016 - I think I am going to like this Transwoman Web Series

Jen Richards of  the "I am Cait" docu-series, has written, produced and starred in a new web drama series about the everyday life of transwomen.

It's called, Her Story.

Her Story is a 6-episode new-media series that looks inside the dating lives of trans & queer women as they navigate the intersections of desire & identity. and the first episode was just posted.

I have posted the first episode below and its only about 8 minutes long. If you have a few minutes, check it out.

Tuesday January 19, 2016 - Movie: I am a Girl!

I ran across with short movie called, "I am a Girl!". It's a dutch docu-movie about a 13-year old transgirl.  It has English subtitles and lasts about 15 minutes.

But I found it interesting to see what a young trans-teen goes through in a more accepting community. She deals with boy issues and hanging out with her girlfriends.

If you have about 15 minutes, its worth the watch.

Monday January 18, 2016 - Another first on "Yes to the Dress"

Have you every watched the TV show, "Yes to the Dress"? I have not but its a show about brides buying their wedding dress.

Coming soon, is an episode first, the bride is a Transwoman. I am going to have to watch this episode. Plus she is a home girl from Atlanta.

This is another move forward because it will hopefully allow people to see Transwoman in a positive light with feelings and opinions that are similar to others.

Our enemies try to cast us as evil predators lurking in the shadows or bathrooms. That is why its important that we engage with the public and show our humanity.

Thursday December 10, 2015 - Jazz Jennings on the Red Carpet

TrevorLIVE is a signature semi-annual fundraising event offering a celebratory evening of impact and awareness for the suicide prevention resources and crisis intervention services offered by The Trevor Project.

On December 6, 2015, during the most recent semi-annual event. Jazz Jennings was an Honoree. I watched her on the red carpet and it brought tears to my eyes.

I thought about how happy she must be (I should would be) to be so pretty and on the red carpet in front of all of those cameras. To be accepts as a successful and pretty female teenager.

As a teenager in the 1970's, I dreamed about being that pretty female teenager, blossoming into a women while be accepted by society. Whether on the red carpet or the prom, I still hope to one day attend a Black Tie Affair as a pretty women is a gorgeous gown, just like my mother use to,

It made my day to watch this video below.
